A teenager was arrested earlier this morning after trying to sneak a handgun into a Northeast Philadelphia high school. CBS Philadelphia reports that around 7:20 a.m., a metal detector at Samuel Fels High School picked up on the weapon. The young man fled, but school police officers pursued and apprehended him minutes later.
The student, who has yet to be identified, was taken into custody by Philadelphia police officers, who then handed him over to detectives for questioning. The weapon—reportedly a .38-calibre revolver—was recovered by police, and the investigation is ongoing. We will update when more information becomes available.
