Apple has killed off the ability to rent TV shows from iTunes, leaving customers who use the service to access their favorite shows with only the option to buy.

HD TV rentals were previously available for many shows for just 99 cents a pop, but Apple has quietly removed that option from iTunes, saying that customers were primarily interested in buying their shows anyway.  This is a bit of an about-face for Apple, who worked hard last year to get TV networks to agree to rentals and made the feature the lynch pin of the revamped AppleTV.

Owning an individual episode of a show will cost you about $2.99 on average, or you can purchase an entire season or "season pass" for an ongoing series.
