8. King Cole Bar at the St. Regis New York
CITY: New York City
ADDRESS: 2 East 55th St.
This is where dashing NY gentlemen and old-fashioned drink connoisseurs go to watch the throne—the throne being that of a painting of King Cole commissioned by Maxfield Parrish. King Cole is a historic bar for many reasons, but most notably because of the birth of our hangover drink of choice: the Bloody Mary. Originally dubbed the “Red Snapper,” King Cole’s then-bartender was fresh from France, where he’d been conocting the drink for years, before introducing it to U.S. audiences. The drink remains the bar’s signature drink, so grab one and try to find a seat at one of the cozy banquettes lining the wall.
