The latest product of Yours Truly and Adidas Originals’ Songs from Scratch series comes courtesy of fast-rising emcee Goldlink and Australian musician Chet Faker. The two linked recently in LA’s Werewolf Heart Studios and crafted “On You,” a song—in Goldlink’s words—about “no matter how much you have, you just want to spend it on that one girl.”
It’s a seamless collaboration laced with smooth-riding production from Chet, a soft, layered hook, and an expressive, melodic verse from Goldlink. He floats over the minimal instrumental, crooning, “I got a hundred million dollars for ya, I saved the money just to spend it on ya,” and continues on detailing what he’s seen from females as a young artist on his way to the top.
Songs from Scratch has yielded a number of excellent records including Chance The Rapper and Nosaj Thing‘s “Paranoia” and Kelela, Tink, and DJ Dahi‘s “Want It,” and now “On You” joins the ranks as one of the series’ best.
