Niki & The Dove‘s “DJ Ease My Mind” doesn’t sound exactly as you might imagine it sounding based on the title. Instead of a sweaty dancefloor jam, it’s more of a soundtrack you’d expect to hear playing during a slow-motion battle scene where men on horses charge forward and meet in a violent/beautiful clash of metal and flesh—not what you’d expect from a song called “DJ Ease My Mind.”
Twin Shadow takes the track even further away from what its title suggests. Thanks to his remix, the song is now stripped down and emotional, like the soundtrack to that scene right after the battle, in which a lone casualty of war lays dying in a field, clenching some bloody piece of fabric that reminds him of his family or true love.
