Late Night Music: Little Dragon - "Stormy Weather (LarryOh Remix)"

1.

Some of the most powerful music is discovered at six in the morning (this and this), and it’s sometimes very specific to those late nights of no sleep and a zombie-like state. So we decided to start Late Night Music. If we find ourselves listening to a song between 2 and 6 in the morning, we’ll post it between 2 and 6 in the morning. Stay human, right? So here’s the first installation. See you out here, fellow insomniacs.

It’s a corny line, but it’s one that’s stood out in my head ever since I first heard it: in Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life” Stephan Jenkins sings that “the four right chords could make me cry.” When you talk and think about music a lot, you can lose sight of this visceral reaction that (I hope) all people have to music. Can you scientifically explain why it is that the right combination of chords/notes/sounds can emotionally move a human being? Yeah, you probably can, but that explanation to a music fan is probably about as rewarding as the explanation of Santa to a child.

LarryOh’s remix of “Stormy Weather” is simple and a little rough around the edges, but it tugs at those strings.
