What’s always killed me about Chicago’s footwork is how many people would be downright confused about the tempo. Sure, the actual rhythms are pushing the 160BPM realm, but the aesthetic can be so hip-hop. Producers like DJ Rashad and Traxman exposed that, bringing in the dusty fingered sample mentality to how they’d cook up their trax, and while Double Cup showed how ultra smooth the footwork sound can be, the Teklife and Treated Crew-presented EP from Mic Terror, Live From Your Momma’s House, brought both worlds together.

Chitown representer Mic Terror (from the Treated Crew) has been doing the damn thing over the last six-plus years, getting the stamp of approval from the Chicago Reader as well as a number of your favorite outlet’s favorite outlets. With a batch of beats from Mano (who produced The Weeknd’s “The Hills,” which is currently #1 on iTunes) and Teklife producers DJ Rashad, DJ Spinn, TASO, and others, Terror found that beautiful middle ground between the world of hip-hop and footwork. On “Like This,” Mano crafts a soulful backdrop for the thumping cut, punctuating Mic Terror’s dreams of being with bae—and the hows and whats regarding what he’ll do when it’s “flex, time to have sex” time.

For this track that’s as fun as it is funky, this APJ Films-directed video looks like it was found up in your uncle’s attic, buried beneath a stack of VHS tapes. The distorted feel to the images, which themselves are like everything you love about twisted Tumblr rabbit holes, are actually pretty perfect in capturing the entire project. Also, kind of NSFW.
