Marv Won, Soundtrack of Autumn

When you think of Detroit hip-hop, a few names probably come up instantly: Eminem, J Dilla, Guilty Simpson, and Black Milk. The game is deeper than that, and if you aren't mentioning cats like Marv Won, you're playing yourself. Marv's been around for a minute; he's worked with the likes of Guilty and Black, as well as legends like DJ Houseshoes, but today, he's linked up with the mighty Rappers I Know to drop his Soundtrack of Autumn, which does exactly what it says on the tin.

Marv Won's been in the game for a minute; his first solo album (Way of the Won) dropped in 2009, and he's been consistently dropping heat as a solo artist and as a part of The Fat Killahz ever since. He was even featured on the Shady/Fuse reality TV series Road to Total Slaughter, which documented a heated battle rap competition. Marv's a monster with the pen–you can hear that in this deleted scene from 8 Mile, or from his work on the battle rap circuit, which has taken him from Detroit to China–and his bars on Soundtrack are just as lethal. Don't believe? Head to "Make You a Star," which is packed like your bags before you head home for Thanksgiving. Nowhere is this feeling matched perfectly with that sound in the title track, which features Gwenation.

This isn't warm weather material at all; we're talking Timberland boots, hoodies, and skullies. Brutal boom bap for the 2016 era. Despite the tracks being for the cooler temps, there's tons of heat throughout. The aforementioned Fat Killahz grab their scalpels for some brutal "Surgery," while fellow Detroit MC Boldy James steps into the booth on the hypnotic "Will."  Yet while Marv works very well with others, Marv might be at his best when he's doing it dolo; hell, he produced the entire project himself.

When describing the project, Marv says "Now is the time to start prepping for winter. It’s time to store food. It’s time to gather firewood. It’s time to prepare to bundle up." This is the music to help you get ready for winter, which is indeed coming. You can stream Soundtrack for Autumn down below, and snag it via Rappers I Know. If you want even more Marv, grab this loosie with Royce Da 5'9 that dropped in anticipation of this album. It's a scorcher.
