It warms our hearts when artists play nice and share with one another. To celebrate a breakout year and the release of a debut album, respectively, Irish electro-pop trio (formerly duo) Young Wonder and NYC synth-rock quartet Black Light Dinner Party have a little exchanging going, with each band interpreting one of the other’s songs. Young Wonder’s up to bat first, tackling BLDP’s “We Are Golden.”
“We Are Golden” marches along a shimmery backbone, climbing to fuzzed out synth-rock peaks. Young Wonder maintains the twinkle, but the band’s lock step and haze for dream-trap drums, affected vocals, and layers of synths. The translation works, keeping the spirit intact while showcasing the enjoyable sensibility that Young Wonder has quickly developed.
