Bay Area rapper/producer Elujay’s new single “Soul Food” embodies its namesake with a warmth typically reserved for the hip hop of bygone eras, soulful sample forming the foundation for an airy blend of modern hip hop and smooth jazz. He and Saba (one of Chicago’s more consistently impressive young talents) form an able team, but Elujay’s production stars—an alluring backdrop for meandering raps about police brutality, daily racism, and a resolute positivity and perseverance that gives the song its bittersweet balance.

Listen below and be sure to check out Saba at this month’s installment No Ceilings.
