Over the course of his first three releases, 17-year-old BANKX has shown himself to be one of the more effortlessly talented rappers from his burgeoning hometown, Milwaukee. While he might not necessarily be as experimental or deeply personal as some of his counterparts, he makes up for substance-still-being-collected (after all, he’s only 17) with ample style.
On his fourth single “WEEKEND6,” BANKX continues making his way in the world of druggy, dark hip-hop. “WEEKEND6” transmits a certain late night nihilism thanks to producer DUTCHBOY’s heavy, ambient beat and BANKX’s melodic rapping, which almost breaks down into enjoyable unintelligibility by the song’s end. It’s a short, concentrated burst, the most engaging of his illicit explorations to date.
