Brooklyn-based, Boulder, Colorado-raised singer HANAH follows up July’s gauzy “Out of Touch” with “Hideaway,” another co-production with Luca Buccellati (the talented producer behind Yellerkin and Tei Shi).
“Hideaway” is simultaneously expansive and intimate, Buccellati’s icy, airy sound bed like a vast, empty to field to HANAH’s lonely vocal. It’s a modern, take on soul infused with electronic influence—one that doesn’t feel easily classified as “alt-R&B.” Some of the trappings are there, but HANAH’s songwriting matched with skittering percussion and enveloping pads make for something that feels of a slightly different cloth from the music typically consigned to the subgenre. A very pretty second step
