Los Angeles-based singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist GDNA’s new EP “Quadrants” works best taken as a whole—not necessarily a series of interlocking pieces, but rather a palette of similar sounds and pretty textures comprising a mellow mood. It’s music that feels wedded to late nights and tight, dimly lit quarters, reminiscent of much of the second wave of late ’90s/early 2000s jazz-hop now relegated to Amoeba bins and deep cut Blogger sites.
Cohesive and concise, “Quadrants” suggests that there’s still room for growth in GDNA’s formula, while also pointing to a young artist’s capacity for enjoyable aesthetic consistency.
