With vivid wintry imagery running through the core of Australian singer-songwriter/producer Woodes' stunning single, "The Thaw," an outdoors video shot at picturesque Lake Mountain was a no-brainer.
"I wanted to shoot on location where it was possible," she explains. "Shooting on location provides an array of new variables to work with, the main one being the weather, which we had to closely monitor in order to shoot up so high with drones. My favourite part is the final shot. It looks like a movie, a game or a painting but it is entirely natural and unedited. It gives a full scope of the beauty of those mountains, all built in layers on the horizon, covered in mist."
The slowed-down imagery and fluid choreography (from Courtney Hale) beautifully complement the whimsical nature that originally made us fans of the song. Focusing in on the Woodes' flowing hair, the clip features a variety of twirling movements that Hale admits led her to "[find] muscles I didn’t quite know existed till after the shoot." Worth it.
