Klangstof's "Hostage" Video is a Haunting Look Inside the Mind of a Former Soldier

“‘Hostage’ is about feeling annoyingly uncomfortable,” says Klangstof (Koen van de Wardt) of his chilling debut single. “In my case this usually results in me locking myself up in the studio, staring at some synthesizers.”

For the song’s video, the Dutch artist unlocks the door, exits the studio, and climbs inside the mind of a former soldier who finds himself isolated from society and haunted by his past.

“In Adrien’s (lead character in the video) case it results in anger and uncontrollable behavior,” Koen continues. “But at the end of the day, I really see the beauty in those moments as well. I believe people are their realest when they feel down and are locked up in their own minds.”

Accentuating the song’s incredible build from its lush opening moments to a frenzied peak, the visuals explore the building tension inside a disturbed human mind in a beautiful, revealing way.
