Our first taste of music from Gabriel Bruce since Love In Arms in 2013 is intriguing based on the title alone: “Metal Soul.” Has the London singer spent the last few years hunkered down, inventing a new genre that combines intense metal music with beautiful soul harmonies? Or maybe it’s a reference to the cold, detached soul of a relationship in peril?
A quick listen to the single reveals the answer is closer to the second option than the first (although a metal/soul project would be crazy, right?). Bruce’s signature gravelly vocals pair with emotional lyrics for an eerie ballad that makes full use of his talent as a storyteller and gives us an exciting peek at his next album, Come All Sufferers.
