Although the style of music is constantly changing and the focus may stray away from lyrical content at times, when you hear an album from a new artist, especially their debut release, the goal remains consistent and that is for listeners to leave feeling like they have an idea of who the artist is behind the music. With Dark Sober Mind, Just Mills achieved this goal and absolutely blew me away with the 10-track project.
The 25-year-old rapper caught my attention when I saw producers I recognized (Nova, Dutchboy, Beatjoven) but as soon as I pressed play I was locked in as Mills brought intensity, grit, and poise to each of these tracks. Throughout this album you get a story of a man who has had an equal amount of success and failure as the rising spitter breaks down his pains and how they've led to his immense growth.
