British singer Samuel’s Falling Star EP is special. Although he is working in the same realm of breathy, downtempo R&B as countless other artists, this guy is operating on another level. From his warm but fragile vocals to the spaced-out, bass-heavy production (courtesy of Okzharp, one third of LV), every part of Samuel’s debut EP for NinjaTune affiliate Technicolour is perfectly put together, easily getting across the feelings of wonder, excitement, but also loneliness that come with living in a big city (in his case London).
Whether its the intergalactic haze of “Boom Boom Boom” and “Steam Train,” the twisted thump of “Death Star Wonder,” or the weird bounce of “Falling Star,” you’ll surely find something to fall in love with on Samuel’s incredibly impressive EP.
