British singer/songwriter/producer Romans has worked with some big names (Disclosure, Mary J Blige), but he’s sharing music from his own project for the first time today with “Prisoner.”

The track, which is bookended by versatile rapper Rejjie Snow, sees ROMANS delivering a powerful vocal performance that recalls pop divas of days gone by over a shape-shifting garage inspired beat. He explains:

“I was watching Kill Bill in the studio and started making this beat which I initially called ‘Snow Garden.’ I was listening to it for a while and played it to my friend Jimmy Napes. We started singing ideas straight away and wrote the whole track really quickly. It started as something I had no intention of using for myself, which is often the best way to make yourself a song.”

“My first experiences with music outside of school was in the London garage scene in the early 2000’s. My friends and I would spend hours mixing in our bedrooms and it’s how I learnt about structure and production. I wanted to make a song that sounded like a mix essentially, that went from dark to light and then reintroduced the darkness.”

With a debut that shoots for the stars, ROMANS has announced himself as an artist to look out for this year.
