London singer, songwriter, and producer Royce Wood Junior is delivering on the early promise of the twisted, soulful electronic pop of his debut track “Nuff,” and its follow ups “Hardly” and “Beeline.” Where those tracks, which appeared on Royce’s debut EP Tonight Matthew, featured guest vocalists Kwabs and Rosie Lowe, Royce’s excellent new four-track EP Rover is all him, and we’re happy to premiere the title track below.

What stands out immediately on “Rover” is the production, a fizzing, energetic mix of almost garage-sounding drums and chopped vocal samples, which is soon joined by Royce’s moody, late-night vocals. Neither the vocals nor the production is put first here—the two are working in tandem to create Royce’s sound, one that is very current, but rooted in timeless songwriting. Check it out below.

Pre-order the Rover EP, out December 1 via 37 Adventures, on iTunes here or on vinyl here.
