Well look at that stylishly dressed, perfectly put together paragon of healthy living in the photo above. Take that tabloids. TAKE THAT. Peter Doherty of The Libertines and Babyshambles (in case you’ve lived under a rock for the past 10 years) has been out of the news for a while, quietly working on his second solo album with producer Adem Hilmi and designing a line of smart-casual clothes (see above) for Parisian brand The Kooples. The two new songs below are demos thrown online by producer Hilmi, with the first being classic Doherty fare and the second going in an interesting new direction.
“Down For The Outing” chooses the acousitc guitar, wordy lyrics, sometimes mumbled vocals route that suits the weary poet so well, but “Siberian Fur” (a rework/cover of a Wolfman song) is the first reported sighting of Doherty rapping, as he attempts to fill the gap left by the end of The Streets. Over a slinky, funky bassline, augmented at times by sweeping strings, P. Dizzle kicks some mad rhymes about his girl’s lack of passion and looking for a tiger (dripping saliva) to buy.
