Purple Ferdinand has a unique look, a background in professional tattoo artistry, and plays the ukulele (shout out the ukulele crew). But most importantly (for us, at least) she’s got a lovely voice, which, on “Birds,” lies somewhere between old time soul and the sounds of the “folk revival” that came out of London in the past five years or so. Her debut Dragonfly EP is out July 23, with “Birds” and “Speak True” joined by “Wasn’t Taught To Love,” a gorgeous, heartbroken lullaby that really accentuates the timeless qualities of her voice.
