Thundercat, Lapalux, TOKiMONSTA, and of course Flying Lotus. Some of our favorite artists have released music on Brainfeeder, the label run by FlyLo himself, and next up is Iglooghost.
The British producer and designer throws influences from far and wide into a blender, and what comes out the other side is music like no other. It’s hyperactive, colorful, in constant motion, and after the trance stabs and fluttering vocals of “Gold Coat,” Iglooghost is back with “Xiangjiao.”
He tell us:
THE SONG “XIANGJIAO” IS ABOUT A GELATINOUS WORM WITCH CALLED XIANGJIAO ZOOMING VERY FAST THRU A STUPID NONSENSICAL SPACE FULL OF FLOATING PEACHES & A LOT OF STEAM, WHICH IS VERY MUCH GETTING IN THE WAY OF LOOKING 4 THE NEXT PORTAL 2 ESCAPE THIS PARTICULARLY TROUBLESOME PLACE. HE/SHE IS DUCKING AND BENDING AROUND FLYING THINGS & IS CRYING GUMMY TEARS. AT 2:04 A LOT OF PINK MOUNTAINS START GROWING FROM SOMEWHERE & XIANGJIAO HAS TO RUN AWAY FROM THEM RLLY FAST. ꒦ິ⍙꒦ິ
Another reason for the unique sounds coming from the mind of Iglooghost might be his creative process, his artwork informs the music, rather than being informed by it.
IT’S SUPER FUN TO MAKE A PICTURE & THEN SET YRSELF THE CHALLENGE OF MAKING A SONG TO FIT THE IMAGE. I USUALLY MAKE THE ALBUM ART WAY BEFORE THE MUSIC & HAVE IT IN FRONT OF ME WHILE I WRITE THE TUNES JUST 2 MAKE SURE IT ALL FEELS COHESIVE & FROM THE SAME PLACE!! ര‿ര
