Gwilym Gold - "Muscle"

Listen to Gwilym Gold's mournful, beautiful new song "Muscle."

Gwilym Gold used to be in a band called Golden Silvers. I listened to Golden Silvers a lot between 2007 and 2009, before they disbanded and receded to the farthest edges of my music listening habits. Listening back to their 2009 album True Romance today, it stands up a lot better than much of the jangly indie of the time. While most of the songs are bouncy and bright, the spare and mournful album closer “Fade To Black” was an indication of the sound that Gwilym has now made his own.

Really though, no context is needed to enjoy “Muscle,” a slow-paced ballad based around simple piano and finger clicks. “Muscle” is the first release on HYMN, a new record label founded by Eddie Peake in collaboration with The Vinyl Factory. The 12″ vinyl, digital, and limited edition are out July 14. Pre-order here.

UPDATE: Check out Beam’s sweeping, synth-filled remix of the song below.
