Earlier this week, Beyoncé made Grammy history by becoming the first artist to earn nominations across four different genres in one year. Her nine nominations span pop, rap/sung, urban contemporary, and rock. The Houston singer, however, was vying for nominations in an additional genre: country.

According to the Associated Press, an anonymous source with knowledge of the Grammy nomination process shared that Beyoncé submitted her twangy Lemonade track "Daddy Lessons" for consideration in the country categories. The Grammy Country Committee ultimately rejected the song, making it ineligible for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song.

Beyoncé recently performed the song alongside The Dixie Chicks at the Country Music Awards. The performance was met with controversy, as the Country Music Association wiped their website and social media accounts clean of all references to the performance shortly after it aired. After facing scrutiny for their decision to remove the performance from their website and social media accounts, CMA re-uploaded the deleted content and called the collaboration a "highlight of the evening." Country stars have been vocal about their support for the song, Dierks Bentley telling Associated Press that "there is just something intangible about it that it feels like a country song."

Despite her rejection from the country Grammy categories, Beyoncé still earned an impressive amount of nominations. She is the most nominated artist of the year, and has also become the most nominated female artist of all time. The talented singer has already won 20 awards, and she is eight wins away from becoming the most awarded female artist in Grammy history.
