Earlier this year Bryan Sammis left The Neighbourhood to focus on his solo output, and the results so far have proved that to be a fruitful decision. Under the name of Olivver, Sammis makes pretty songs about ugly emotions. “Keep It Sacred” reveals primal desires and bitter sentiments, but it’s backed by gorgeous organs and hushed passion. It’s the kind of juxtaposition that Sammis thrives on, choosing to paint over varying canvases of genre. For lack of a better word, it’s unapologetically raw.
Track after track reveals more of the road ahead of him, and there’s no denying where he’s headed is exciting. “Keep It Sacred” is just as unfiltered as we’ve come to expect now, and yet it remains just as fresh. Listen to the premiere of “Keep it Sacred” below.
