The music of New Zealander Lontalius gives off a warm and tender quality that feels like a blanket on a cold winter’s night. His songs are frequently sweet and endearing, without ever coming across as overbearing. His understated voice compliments his gorgeously soft compositions, with their gentle 808s and pretty melodies. Next year, after putting out a handful of one-off tracks and some brilliant covers, he’ll finally be releasing his debut album through Partisan Records.
His first release on the label is “All I Wanna Say,” which distils everything so appealing about his music into a brief running time just shy of four minutes. The budget sounds a little higher than his distinctively lo-fi SoundCloud cuts, but the cleaner sound doesn’t take away from the homebrewed quality of his music. The video, which is just as understated and cute as the song, perfectly sums up how it feels to listen to the track itself.
Judging from “All I Wanna Say” alone, it’s starting to look like Lontalius’ debut album is going to be one of 2016’s most exciting prospects. Watch the video above, and purchase the song via iTunes here.
