Macklemore is not just a rapper, he’s a proud owner of artistic oddities. In the event you forgot or simply chose to sidestep the story altogether, a picture of Justin Bieber’s junk surfaced last October and promptly shut down the internet for a day or two. Well, that widely distributed image was evidently doctored. If you let artist Dan Lacey tell it, the singer has a pancake—not a penis—where one might expect to find a man’s genitals.
Let us rewind. Macklemore, fresh off the release of This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, sat down with Rolling Stone for a thorough cover story that’s making headlines for a small but telling inclusion. The rapper collects art. And not Basquiats, Condos, Rothkos, or [insert artist name-dropped by Jay Z]. He favors paintings that truly make a statement. Exhibit A: a nude depiction of the Canadian pop star. Ryan Lewis mentioned this conversation starter in the interview. Here’s a quote:
On the ground floor is a recording room with a ton of audio gear, a wall of guitars and racks of outlandish garments spouting sequins, fringe and feathers. “Those are Ben [Haggerty, Macklemore’s real name]’s,” Lewis notes. There is a kitschy velvet painting of a bald eagle, an oil painting of Drake dancing and a transfixing rendition of a naked Justin Bieber with maple syrup pouring down his chest onto a pancake balanced on his boner.” Ben spent a lot of time buying weird stuff on Etsy,” Lewis says.
