July. The year’s seventh month has assumed new meaning in the last 12, no longer the exclusive property of sunny weather or stateside Independence Day barbecues. Ever since the man born Christopher Breaux announced his third album, Boys Don’t Cry, last April, July gained another mark of distinction: Frank Ocean Season.
The latest update to boysdontcry.co suggests last year’s promise might come to fruition this time around. Last night, Ocean posted a library slip to his website. The page, labeled “late” in the URL, seems to include all of the intended release dates for his long-awaited project. The list begins in July of 2015 and ends with a July 2016 date, the specific day smeared beyond recognition. Expect an Ocean album hunt and frantic fan tweets to define the coming weeks (also, paranoia—see below).
The only cause for concern? Ocean allotted himself some wiggle room (to the tune of four additional months) by including a deviation from the chronological listing: toward the top of the dates, “Nov 13, 2016” sits out of place and partially obscured by a release slotted for “Nov 27, 2015.” Soon enough, we’ll know whether this post holds true or cements Frank as a troll with med school ambitions. No matter the month, however, it appears that Boys Don’t Cry will see the light of day before New Year’s.
