Just days ahead of their headlining performance at Pitchfork Festival this weekend, Wilco surprises fans with a new album titled Star Wars. Releasing an album unannounced is great news on its own, but the deal is sweetened by the fact that this new album is also available for free.
Last night, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco announced the big news via the band’s Facebook page. A link to Wilco’s website—where fans can download the album—followed Tweedy’s short statement: “Why release an album this way and why make it free? Well, the biggest reason, and I’m not sure we even need any others, is that it felt like it would be fun. What’s more fun than a surprise?”
