At the end of last year, it was reported that Napster was working on making a comeback. It seems hard to remember a time when there weren’t various music streaming services at our disposal—allowing consumers to listen to whatever they want, whenever they want. Before this time, music lovers looked to Napster to download thousands of songs. The only catch was that it was illegal.

Though Napster seemingly faded away a few years ago after being bought by Rhapsody, it appears the company is going to be making their big comeback very soon. Rhapsody recently announced via their website that the company will soon be working under the name Napster. The news post is completed with an eerie photo that simply reads, “Napster is coming.”

However, current Rhapsody subscribers don’t have to worry about starting from scratch. This rebranding will only mean outward changes in appearances, but not functionality. Their news posts read: “No changes to your playlists, favorites, albums, and artists. Same music. Same service. Same price. 100% the music you love. Stay tuned!”

There’s no word yet on when this change will officially happen but it will be interesting to see how it ultimately fits into the already heated music streaming competition going on with Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, and many more.
