OMB Peezy The Hard Way

OMB Peezy was one of the most unique rappers to emerge in 2017, blending southern bravado with a heavy Bay Area influence for a truly singular sound. He's back with a new mixtape, Young & Restless, and the Alabama MC has found a perfect foil in Baton Rouge rhymer Sherwood Marty.

Peezy put out Humble Beginnings, a joint EP with producer Cardo, in October. Marty released the single "All Eyes on Me" earlier this month. Young & Restless was preceded by the menacing but melodic single "Crash Out," and continues to blend southern bounce with a dash of West Coast flare across its 14 tracks. The whole project bristles with the sense of danger and immediacy that makes Peezy such a raw and attention-grabbing talent.

"I think being around older people affected the way I grew up in a major way. It helped me look at shit differently. I didn’t look at things like the young motherfuckers would," Peezy told Pigeons & Planes in May. "Young motherfucker would look at shit like going to get Givenchy or shoes. I was looking at shit like, 'I gotta get this money and make it last,' feel me?"
