It took four years of on-and-off recording, but Connecticut rapper Lonny X has finally finished Full Court Press. “It took different shapes and sizes because of some of the shit that was going on in my life,” he explained over email. “In the process of making this, I made other things, other projects. I didn't want Full Court Press to come out any other way than it is right now. Glad to be able to give y'all more of my mind.”
A focused, confident affair, Full Court Press is his strongest and best project to date. With only two guest appearances, it’s free of fluff and straight to the point, focusing on his talents and the stellar producers he worked with. “I felt that this project should be mostly me,” he said. “I wanted to come into the year strong and I relied on myself for that. Glad I could work with so many of my favorite producers, though.”
Throughout the past few years, Lonny has been making his hometown proud. “I have a strong pride for my hometown,” he said. It comes through a lot on Full Court Press, in particular. “A lot of this shit runs through my veins. The slang, the code, all of that. I learned a lot about myself from growing up here. I'm paying my dues. It's only right.”
But if there’s one thing he wants people to take away from the album, he explained, “[I] would love it if some of the life lessons I passed on are lived out by even one person.” It’s more personal, and more direct. “[I] gave a lot more of myself on here than I usually do.”
