Gnarls Barkley Are Returning With a Prequel Album to 'St. Elsewhere'

CeeLo Green says he and Danger Mouse are reuniting for the first Gnarls Barkley album since 2008.

CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse haven't released an album as Gnarls Barkley together since The Odd Couple in 2008, but according to CeeLo, a new project from the duo is around the corner.

In an interview with DJBooth, Green says, “We have already started on a new [Gnarls Barkley] album. We’re halfway in and we have some overtures from the other projects that may not have stood the test of time, we don’t know yet.”

He adds, “All of this is all prequel. I think [Danger Mouse and I] are kind of rebuilding from the ground up. There is no building without a basement, it’s got to come up out the dirt; come up out the mud.”

CeeLo says that they plan to meet up at the beginning of 2018 to finish up the album in a week—the same way they recorded 2006's St. Elsewhere: “That’s pretty much all the time we had to do St. Elsewhere because we were heating up around that time," he says. "We were doing something recreationally.”
