Toro Y Moi announced his new album Boo Boo last month, and now it's already here. When he announced the album, he said that Frank Ocean, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Travis Scott among others influenced the creation of the record. Even if that's the case, and those elements can be heard in some of the tracks on Boo Boo upon early listening, this is definitely a record only Toro could make.
From the sounds of things, this is both his most experimental and poppiest record so far. "I recognized that the common thread between these artists was their attention to a feeling of space, or lack thereof," he explained in a press release when the album was announced. "I decided that I wanted to make a pop record with these ideas in mind." The visuals he shared the album stream with are equally as spaced-out and patient, offering a glimpse of a sunset from a car as disparate elements occasionally overlay themselves on the image.
