M.I.A.'s 'A.I.M.'

M.I.A. has been gearing up to release her fifth, and possibly last, studio album since sometime last year. Originally titled Matahdatah, the album has finally arrived today. Featuring production from Diplo, Skrillex, and Hit-Boy among others, AIM is a colorful mix of influences and sounds. The album features the previously released tracks "Borders," "Go Off," "Bird Song," "Freedun," and "Swords."

The 17-track deluxe version of the album features Diplo's version of "Bird Song," as well as a number of previously released singles that kept the wait from Matangi to AIM bearable. Zayn Malik appears on the vibrant "Freedun," fitting into the context of the album remarkably well. While it's perhaps a bit more scattered than her more recent material, the album still features a number of interesting high-points that act as a fantastic reminder of what made M.I.A. so essential in the first place.
