Watch Rising Rapper Trapo's Video For "Chicago"

Trapo had our attention from the first time we heard one of his songs. The Wisconsin rapper, who is still a teenager, showed remarkable depth and came with a unique sound palette on “Cards & Conversations,” and he’s proved his talent since then. His most recent project is SHE, which he describes as “a complete therapy session” about various relationships in his life.

Now, one of the tape’s standouts, the bouncy “Chicago,” has a video which mixes footage of Trapo with aerial shots of Chicago. “I made ‘Chicago’ in my room the night of returning from my first show in the city, which was really my first show outside of Wisconsin,” Trapo explains. “It was at Chop Shop and they showed so much love. I wanted to show the city I appreciated it, and this visual is sort of an ode to my time out there.”

Yakub Films adds, “This song is a different style of music than I am used to working with, and portrays a different kind of energy. The energy I felt was lively and I wanted to portray that side of Chicago, but rather than capturing the liveliness of its people, I decided to capture the energy of the buildings and special angles that you only get if you live in the cheaper areas of the city.”

Catch Trapo live at our No Ceilings New York show on July 22 at Baby’s All Right with Kamaiyah, Jimi Tents, and Khary.
