Amidst territorial men and glistening women, Pell returns with his sights set on long-term wins in “Basic Beach.” Temptations abound as he doubles down on his ambition, still managing to have fun with gradual increments of fame.

“This is for those who are tired of being persecuted by those who bring their significant other to a function expecting them to not mingle,” Pell told P&P in an email. “Lighten up. ‘Never bring sand to the beach, when you’ve never even seen that shore.'”

Brooklyn-based production and engineering outfit Like Minds handle the track’s backbone. Synthetic bass lines and whirlpools of summery sonics make for a breezy listen, tailor-made for beachside boom boxes. Just shy of four minutes, the record is Pell’s first in many moons. The New Orleans native has kept himself busy in 2016, touring and tinkering away at new sounds in the wake of last year’s Limbo.
