Get to Know Oakland's Next Star Kamaiyah In New Mini-Doc

With each passing day, Kamaiyah‘s hold on Oakland continues to grow. The 24-year-old rapper quickly cemented herself as one to watch with a bass-rich, melodic single in “How Does It Feel,” and her debut project, A Good Night in the Ghetto, justified the hype. As shows increase in size and streams rise further still, more and more fans are beginning to wonder about the person behind the mic. Today, we received what is perhaps the deepest glimpse into her life thus far thanks to a documentary directed by Chris Simmons.

In the visual piece, she tours the place that raised her and reflects on what it means to smell success in the music industry without straying from her roots. At one point swarmed by kids at a local school, it’s evident she’s a staple in her community.

Visit East Oakland by pressing play on the above video. Kamaiyah will perform in New York City at our 13th No Ceilings event next Friday, July 22, at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to see one of music’s best new acts and buy your tickets now.
