DJ Khaled Says He Got a Condo in NYC in Order to Secure a Verse from Jay Z

Apparently the key to getting a rare Jay Z verse in 2016 involves acquiring property in Hov’s home city.

If you’ve been paying attention to DJ Khaled’s Snapchat story over the last year or so, you may have noticed he spends a lot of time in New York City. Now we know part of the reason why. Sitting down with Music Choice, Khaled revealed that he was so hungry for a verse from Jay Z for his forthcoming Major Key album that he had to get a whole new set of keys.

“It took me years to get Jay Z to do a record for me,” he says. “I basically got a condo in NYC for a whole year to stay close by him and let him know how hungry I was for that verse. So I went in studio every day. He was recording his album and I appreciate him letting me be around and capture that greatness, but at and at the same time I was hustling too, you know what I am saying. I wanna get that verse in.”

As we know, the verse eventually came in the form of a guest spot on Khaled’s “I Got The Keys” single with Future, but the process took a whole year.

“It was a year process that I had to go back and forth to Miami to NY and I had condo in NY and so I stayed in NY so I had to let him know I’m not going nowhere,” Khaled explains. “Basically, we made history. I am never stopping.”
