Daye Jack hasn’t been afraid to experiment throughout his young career, consistently taking risks on new sounds and directions that have paid off nicely for the Georgia rapper. Even his most recent release “Finish Line” was arguably more funk than hip hop, but on “Raw,” he’s back to hitting us over the head with bars.

Over a gritty tapestry of reverberating guitars and heavy bass, he proclaims himself a “villain and a don” before smacking listeners with a metaphorical right hook, rattling off relentless rhymes. It’s easy to be skeptical of songs with titles like “Raw,” but this thing delivers. Whew.

The song comes along with Daye Jack’s appearance in a short film produced by NASA and Apple Music about the similarities between exploring space and making music. Watch that below after giving “Raw” a few spins (his part starts at around the 4:53 mark).
