After Kanye West’s unsuccessful attempt at holding a surprise 2 a.m. pop-up show at Webster Hall in New York City on Sunday night, some residents complained of damaged property and “near-riot” conditions. A spokesperson for the New York Police Department clarified to People that Kanye will not be facing criminal charges, however.

“Not every dumb idea should be criminalized,” former NYPD policeman and criminal justice professor Eugene O’Donnell said.

“His actions Sunday were irresponsible, which would almost be a compliment for a guy like Kanye,” added former NYPD detective Nick Casale. “In my opinion, what he did Sunday night did not cross the threshold of criminality.”

Having avoided formal charges, lets hope Kanye takes up Mayor Bill De Blasio’s offer to throw a block party to make up for the failed surprise show.
