In case you had’t noticed, we’re pretty damn excited for Skepta’s new album Konnichiwa, which is officially released tomorrow, May 6. Earlier today, Zane Lowe debuted a track from the album on his Beats 1 show, and the level is as a high as we’ve come to expect from Skepta.
“Lyrics,” which features rising grime MC Novelist, is a sub three-minute burst of grime intensity, with the catchy hook not quite preparing you for the the verses. Skepta shuts down all challengers, and even manages to get another Devilman diss in there, while Novelist holds his own. Both MCs have been spitting these lyrics on sets for a few months, and they definitely have that live energy, even on record.
