Kaytranada’s debut album 99.9% has been in the works for quite some time now, gradually building more anticipation as the months went by. Almost two months after officially announcing the release date, it’s finally here. Although the 15-track album is stacked with features, Kaytranada’s production remains the star.
The album features guest appearances from Craig David, AlunaGeorge, GoldLink, Anderson .Paak, Syd from The Internet, Vic Mensa, and more. One of the other featured guests is BadBadNotGood—friends and frequent collaborators of Kaytranada’s.
“Since we started working with Kay over a year ago, it’s grown into a very special collaborative friendship.” BBNG told us over e-mail. “He’s so musical and talented it’s crazy, not to mention one of the nicest, most humble people we’ve ever met. Getting in the studio with him is the best time. We’ll write samples, then he’ll hop on a synth he’s never used before and write the perfect line! And obviously his drums and arrangements are incredible.”
In the past year or more, we’ve seen Kaytranada lend his talents to others for their own albums. Now we get the chance to see the Montreal native get his proper time to shine. Whether you’re a long time fan, a curious new listener, or a musical peer like BBNG, 99.9% is sure to be in heavy rotation this summer.
“It’s is so good! It’s such a treat for us to hear his vision all together like that, including the stuff we worked on, some of which we made in our very first session together,” BadBadNotGood continues. “The album is awesome and we’re hoping it does amazingly worldwide! It’s so great to see our good friend and fellow Canadian get the recognition he deserves.”
