Watch a 16-Year-Old Wiki Rap About New York

Practice makes perfect, but some people were just born with a gift. This throwback video came courtesy of Dan Esberg, a P&P reader who sent it through our pitches inbox last night. The clip was posted six years ago, but Wiki’s flow was already polished—even though he’s just 16 in the video.

It’s a nice reminder that nobody starts off on top, even with talent as obvious as Wiki’s. This video is the barest of bare-bones, complete with vertical phone video and the cameraman’s reflection in the background. But production value aside, Wiki’s written goes deep, touching on everything from NY’s growing hipster scourge to heady observations on religion (“It’s funny when people ignore me / Because y’all more fake than Bible stories”).

Watch the video above, and check out how far he’s come with last month’s “God Bless Me” remix.
