Empress Of has been eager to keep her momentum going, collaborating with UK duo Darkstar for the brilliantly dramatic “Reformer” less than a week ago. Now, she’s released her first solo single since her debut album, Me, came out last year. The new track, “Woman Is a Word,” holds back for a majority of its playtime, releasing the tension when it most makes sense in a delightfully grandiose fashion. Tackling the subject of gender head-on, “Woman Is a Word” is just enough example of what Empress Of is really capable of.
