The debate over the Confederate flag has been a heated topic all year. Back in June, Killer Mike shared his opinions on the whole flag debate. He said that he didn’t care if people chose to have the Confederate flag on their homes, trucks or shirts but made it very clear that it has no place flying over schools or official buildings.

It’s a touchy subject to say the least, and because of that many artists have tried to avoid speaking on it. However, others like Yelawolf feel the need to not only speak on it because declare a firm stance. Last night, the Alabama rapper used his Instagram and Facebook accounts as a platform to defend the Confederate flag.

Beginning by saying, “Ain’t no way I’m letting someone’s ignorance tear me from my roots.” Though there are many racial ties embedded into the history of the Confederate flag, many Southerns also view the flag as a historical and sentimental symbol of their history. To prove the latter, Yelawolf went on to name examples of other rappers—Southern black rappers to be exact—who have also worn the Confederate flag in the past. He completed his defense with an additional post of a still from Outkast’s “Ms. Jackson” video where Andre 3000 can be seen wearing a Confederate flag belt buckle.
