It’s only been two months or so since Ryan Hemsworth dropped RYAN PACK V.2, but Ryan has seen fit to grace us with more material already. The melancholic “Afterglow” might not be as danceable or as weird as anything on either of the RYAN PACK releases, but it does highlight an aspect of his work that is quite often overlooked.

As of late, Ryan has perfected his “happysad” aesthetic that he introduced to the world at large with Alone for the First Time, and “Afterglow” feels like the finest example of it yet. With beautiful layers swirling atop one another, “Afterglow” sounds like some sort of dreamy JRPG music that would play upon entering a main character’s hometown.

In other words, it’s adorable and nostalgic in a remarkably charming way.
