Daily Discovery is a feature that highlights a new or recently discovered artist who we’re excited about. See the rest of our Daily Discoveries here.

It’s a beautiful thing when producer and vocalist are in perfect harmony, and that is the case on Connie Constance’s new EP In The Grass. Produced by Blue Daisy, the three track effort sees the two subtly pushing the boundaries of pop music, with Constance’s immediately engaging, soulful voice spinning tales that are at once deeply personal and wholly universal.

Connie Constance is a 20-year-old from London who has been working as a professional dancer since she was 16, and who only started singing with her friends a few years ago. We’re happy she did, as the In The Grass EP is packed with promise, and hopefully only the start of a fruitful working relationship with Blue Daisy, who she describes as a “mentor and advisor.”

The In The Grass EP is out via Black Acre in September. Only one track, “Stars,” is out now, but look out for the others in the near future. Get to know Connie Constance a little better below.

How long have you been making music and who/what inspired you to start?

I’ve been writing short poems since a young age, but I only started singing amongst friends a few years ago. With my homies last year we let a lot of emotions out through discussions, listening to music and most importantly singing to guitar. This is when I became emotionally attached to writing and creating melodies.

How does London affect your sound and the music you make?

Urm. I guess I can say that from living here, being young, working class and creative… this city can at times make you feel in containment and other times give you all the opportunities to fly. So it effects my emotions every time I buy a travel card. And my emotions effect my music/writing.

What artists are inspiring you right now?

The Libertines, Jurassic 5, and Amy Winehouse constantly.

The songs on the EP seem very personal – is writing and creating a cathartic process for you?

Without a doubt. It’s my meditation, my hot bath.

How did you meet Blue Daisy and how has he helped you in your career so far?

My closest friend Calvin Demba introduced me to Blue and Skits at [the club] Shapes in Hackney Wick. I’ve learnt how to write through beats and almost to sing in time. But more importantly he’s been a great mentor and advisor to me.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

To keep creating till everything in my mind is out and new thoughts grow. And to dance more.
