Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon created a swell of excitement when news broke in May of a probable follow-up to the band’s self-titled 2011 masterpiece. He pointed to the then-upcoming Eaux Claires festival as a likely breeding ground for the inspiration and novel ideas that would fuel what was to come. The anticipation quickly soiled and turned into exasperation when, less than two weeks ago, he informed Grantland that plans of another project were moot.

Last night, hope of fresh material from the group of Vernon-led vocalists and instrumentalists was rekindled: the singer performed two previously unheard tracks at Eaux Claires. The inaugural Wisconsin art event curated by Vernon and the National’s Aaron Dessner wrapped up yesterday, and also featured live sets from the likes of Allan Kingdom, Spooky Black, and Sufjan Stevens.
